The Hebrew word pronounced ‘aman’ is the word for believe. It is the root word for our previous word ‘emet’. So we can say that truth(emet) comes from belief(aman). But how does belief bring us truth?

Let’s look at a breakdown of the letters from the Paleo.

א – Aleph (Strength)

מ – Mem (Water, which can represent woman or womb)

נ – Noon (Fish, Life which can represent the seed of man)

So we could say that the strength provided by our father and mother causes us to believe.

Let’s look at the reference in the Blue Letter Bible,

(Strong’s Definitions Legend)

אָמַן ʼâman, aw-man’; a primitive root; (Isaiah 30:21; interchangeable with H541, to go to the right hand) properly, to build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figuratively to render (or be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; morally to be true or certain;:—hence, assurance, believe, bring up, establish, fail, be faithful (of long continuance, stedfast, sure, surely, trusty, verified), nurse, (-ing father), (put), trust, turn to the right.

So when our parents held us as a child. When they supported us by cradling us in their strong arms, they instilled in us belief. Belief, because they were taken care of. As we grew up in this support and belief, we learned to trust all that they would teach us and say to us.

Another thought in this definition is the idea of quieting a child. When we come to God with all our junk, we are like a child crying out. As we connect with God, his peace enters our soul and quiets us as we learn to believe and trust in Him.

So we see that this Biblical Hebraic family structure is what leads us to truth. The truth that God is and we can trust Him.

We know that God chose Abraham for this very reason. That he believed God and that he would teach his children. Let us walk in the same manner, that we would believe in God and raise our children to do the same.

Gen 15:6; Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

Gen 18:19; “For I have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.”
