Did you know God has a Calendar? Yes, He does. God loves to meet with us. He does not want us to miss any special appointments with Him. That’s why He made His calendar.

The first thing He tells us is about day and night. Did you know God starts each day at night time? Yes, He showed us that in Genesis when He was creating the earth. Look what God said in Gen. 1: [5] God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. He showed us evening first then morning for the first day

Next, He showed us the weeks are 7 days. The very first special appointment He planned for us was in the garden of Eden. The name of that special appointment is called Shabbat. We have a story about that on this web site.

He loved to walk and talk with Adam in the garden in the cool of the day. The story tells us on the 7th day He said this is the day I want to rest with you. NO WORK ALLOWED. This is the day I want to spend time with you celebrating all I created for you.

Eventually He showed us months and seasons. Listen to what He said. Gen.1: [14] And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, ….[16] God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.

Then in Psalms He told us why the moon was so important.

Psalm 81: [3] Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our festal (appointed) day.
The moon marked the beginning of each new month. The bible calls it over and over in the scriptures a new moon. He did not create a new moon but on the first day of the new month a sliver of the moon shows up. As the month continues more of the moon is seen in the sky. It becomes full in the middle of the month. Then we see less and less and till the next month and that is how we can tell each new month on God’s calendar. God appointed that new moon day as a time for us to celebrate. To blow a trumpet and thank God for last month and receive instructions for the new month. By knowing when the months change by watching the moon, we will be sure to know when God has appointed times for us to celebrate with Him.

God’s calendar is a Lunar or moon calendar and the calendar we use is a solar calendar based on the sun. Now God is not going to change His special times to be on our calendar so if we want to make sure we keep appointments with Him we need to understand His calendar.

His calendar has 12 months like ours but has different names of the months and different numbers of days. My good friend Christine Vales has a special book and videos that show each month how we can keep track of God’s calendar with ours. https://www.christinevales.com/.

Just like God talked with Adam He talked with Abraham and called him His friend. He wanted to talk with the Israelites at Mt Sinai, but they were afraid and told Moses to talk to God for them. When Moses talked with God, God gave Moses instructions for the people about how to be kind to one another and how to live a life that would honor God. Then God shared His Calendar with Moses and told him He wanted to have special times with the people He loved. In the Bible, these times are called Feasts. In Hebrew, the word Feast is Mo’ed, and it means appointed time or appointment.

The Israelites missed a special blessing of talking directly with God. That special blessings is for everyone old and young. I hope you take time to talk with God every day and then take time to listen to what He wants to tell you.
God’s Feasts are to be a reminder of all He has done for the us. They give us a picture of Historic times in the Bible, so we can remember God’s goodness. They show us a picture of the future in God’s plans. When we understand and celebrate God’s Feasts, they also show us who God is and introduce His Son Jesus to us. God knows we learn better and remember more by having things to do that help explain what God is all about.

Every year we celebrate Thanksgiving and learn about the pilgrims and what happened in our history in the United States. Every time we celebrate God’s Feasts we learn more about our history with God, Jesus His Son and His plan for us today.

Jesus understood how important it was to God that we celebrate God’s Feasts. He celebrated them and so did His disciples. Along the way of History, the Church lost the understanding of how important it is to God that we meet with Him on His special Feast Days. Today, God is reminding us that He still wants us to celebrate His Feasts with Him.

Just like we look forward to Christmas or our birthday, we need to get to know God’s calendar, so we can be looking forward to the next Feast. He wants to spend time with you every day. But on these special days, it’s like having a party to celebrate how much He loves you, and how much you love Him.
