Each year as the Appointed Times of God approach I go through the scriptures to see what God may highlight to me. On our web site www.oimm.org you will find two previous articles I have written. “Reflections on Yom Teruah” and “Day of the Awakening Blast”. Each one highlights different aspects of the first of the Fall Feast biblically known as “The Day of Blowing”

I read several articles on why and how this day became the Jewish Civil New Year. I had to laugh each of the seven Rabbis’ explanations were different. Is that why they loving say put three Jewish people in a discussion on one topic and you will get four explanations? There is much to read about on the traditions of this day. However I choose to go to the word and see what Holy Spirit has to point out to me this year. That is what I will share in this article.

Lev 23

[24] “Tell the people of Isra’el*, ‘In the seventh month, the first of the month is to be for you a day of complete rest for remembering, a holy convocation announced with blasts on the shofar*. [25] Do not do any kind of ordinary work, and bring an offering made by fire to ADONAI*.’” CJB

God calls this day a holy convocation. According to the dictionary the word convocation means the action of calling people together for a large formal assembly.

The only name God gave this convocation is Yom Teruah. The day of Blowing comes at the beginning of the 7th month of the Biblical year in the month of Tishri. It parallels with the 7th day of the week, which is the Sabbath. A special holy time to seek the Lord, Therefore it is considered the Lord’s Sabbath.
This year I feel God has asked me to focus on REMEMBER.

Lev 23:24You shall rest and remember, the blowing of the trumpets will remind you to remember. However God does not tell us exactly what He wants us to remember. So I thought I would start in Genesis and see where the word remember takes me.

Strong’s gives us these definitions of the word Remember.
Remember 2146 memorial, records comes from 2142
2142. zakar (269c); a prim. root; remember:—been mindful, boast, bring to remembrance, celebrate,’ confess, consider, extol(1), invoke, keep, make mention, record, report

As you read through the following scriptures Remember Israel is our picture book of God’s way His heart and His Son. Take to heart for yourself what the word tells us to remember.

This Yom Teruah as you hear the blowing of the Trumpet the breath of God REMEMBER Who He is and How He longs for you to live according to His ways.

First Mention of remember is God’s promise to remember His covenant to us. Gen. 9:15
Ex.13:13 Gives the instruction from Moses to the people to remember the day of deliverance from Egypt
Ex 20:8 God calls us to remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.
Numbers 15: [39] Gives a tool to the children of Israel to remember His ways it states: “It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, so as to do them and not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot, [40] so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy to your God. [41] “I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the LORD your God.”
Deut. 8: [18] Reminds the Israelites it is God alone who gives them the power to get wealth because He is a covenant keeping God it tells us “But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
Deut. 25:17 Cautions Israel to never forget who their enemy is how evil are his ways and how important to give him no place in their inheritance which the Lord gave them.
Deut. 25:17 “Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out from Egypt, [18] how he met you along the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were faint and weary; and he did not *fear God. [19] “Therefore it shall come about when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget.
Never forget the importance God puts on His people because they are His gift to the Nations. Through them He “So love the world that He gave His only Son. ”John 3:16

Deut. 32: [7] “Remember the days of old, Consider the years of all generations.
Ask your father, and he will inform you, Your elders, and they will tell you.[8] “When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, When He separated the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples According to the number of the sons of Israel. [9] “For the LORD’s portion is His people; Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance.

Remember the importance of Keeping His Covenant

Psalm 103: [18] To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them. [19] The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His *sovereignty rules over all.

Remember His character His love and His faithfulness.

Psalm 105:[5] Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth, [6] O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! [7] He is the LORD our God;
His judgments are in all the earth. [8] He has remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,[9] The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac.[10] Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,

Remember that His name is Exalted

Isa. 4: [4] And in that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name.
Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted.” [5] Praise the LORD in song, for He has done excellent things;
Let this be known throughout the earth. [6] Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

Remember there is no God like our God we can trust in Him.
Isa 46:9[9] “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me, [10] Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;

Remember His Instructions through Moses for His promise is restoration.
Mica 4: [2] “But for you who *fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. [3] “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the LORD of hosts. [4] “Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel. [5] “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. [6] “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.”

Remember His Son the Promise full filled in Him to all generations that will call on His name.
2Tim 2: [8] Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,
Rev. 3: [3] ‘So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.
Luke 22:17[19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

I Cor. 11: [24] And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. [25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

The last instruction is to bring an offering made by fire. That is the reference to the burnt offering an offering leaving nothing but ash. This was an offering that only God received. Unlike the other offerings this one the priest received nothing. This offering was for God alone. When one brought the animal for the burnt offering they laid their hand on its head and exchanged their sin, their strength, their life, to be consumed by God. When you hear the shofar remember He is faithful, He is trustworthy, He is Exalted, He is your deliver, He is your instructor, He is your provider, He is your healer, let the fire of His love consume your life.
